Ronan O’Laoire

Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

Ronan O’Laoire leads the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme on Safeguarding Sport from Corruption and Crime. Since taking on this role in 2018, the Programme has supported over 11000 officials from criminal justice authorities, sports organizations and the private sector in over 135 countries to tackle corruption and economic crime in sport, including in the areas of illegal betting, competition manipulation, the transfer of athletes, hosting and organizing major sports events, governance of sports organizations, and enhancing collaboration between sports organizations and criminal justice authorities. In addition to over 20 years of leadership roles in in public service on issues linked to multilateral affairs, drug trafficking, disarmament, anti-corruption, and criminal justice, he holds graduate degrees from Trinity College Dublin and l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po) and has studied at l’Ecole spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr and the George Washington University’s School of Business.
